Visit Peel Island

Duration:Half Day
Activity:For kids - things to do before you're 11¾

Peel Island on Coniston Water is known for starring as Wild Cat Island in the film adaptation of Arther Ransome's 'Swallows and Amazons' book as you may be familiar with. Visit for yourself and see why it may have inspired film-makers to choose it as cinema-worthy!

We suggest hiring a boat or canoe from Coniston Boating Centre to make your way across the lake - you can explore and paddle around the perimeter of the island too to get the best views of the peaceful surrounding landscape.

If you're planning to spend the day at Coniston, bring along your lunch and enjoy a picnic by the lake.

Further Information

There's also our unique National Trust steam yacht gondola which takes trips around the lake, if you'd rather view Peel Island from the comfort of our restored Victorian lounges! More information about steam gondola times and prices.

Coniston is a lovely place to explore especially by sailing on the water and rambling its meandering trails.
