Islands, balancing on a tree, and walking the plank

Duration:2 hours or less
Activity:For kids - things to do before you're 11¾

Where can you go to balance on a fallen tree? Well we think Wray Castle or Grizedale Forest are two great places to try!

For the pros out there that have already conquered balancing on a fallen tree; we challenge you to find a tree to climb on a island! In doing so you would also complete a few others of the 50 Things To Do - 'visit an island' and 'climb a tree'- a 50 Things combo! We suggest Rampsholme Island on Derwent Water, which has a stretch of beach giving you ample room to moor your boat.

For added peril, you can try to hunt out a tree which may have fallen into the lake, or even a living tree that has sturdy branches overhanging the water; a challenge known as walking the plank!

Top tip: Wearing trainers or boots is better for scrambling on fallen trees than flip-flops!
